As soon as the temperature drops below 70, I am ready for fall outfits. So far, the fall has been pretty warm here. Despite this, I am going to continue to try to ‘make fall happen’. Between work, family activities, and all of the travel, I have really been trying to focus on my fall closet staples, rather than giving in to every new trend or impulse buy.
Versatile, yet comfortable, pieces are the focus of my fall closet staples. This means items that can be work both with leggings/joggers, as well as jeans or trousers. Since I primarily work from home, my fall outfits almost always include a cozy fleece and soft pants. I often think about how I used to work outside of the home most days, and truly cannot imagine going back to that. If my outfit does not include something comfortable, it’s not going to happen.
Fall Closet Staples
It bears repeating that fleece sweatshirts and hoodies are my absolute #1 fall closet staple. This is mainly because they can be dressed up if needed. I am very much into the casual cool girl aesthetic that includes a sweatshirt with trousers and a pair of classic adidas. I definitely plan to recreate this outfit that I wore in Arizona last year. In my opinion, leopard never goes out of style.
Another one of my favorite ways I incorporate a fleece sweatshirt from my fall closet staples is in my travel wardrobe. Travel for the last few years has mainly consisted of multiple long weekend trips throughout the year. This year we did manage one longer family trip to New York and Boston, but with work it is often impossible to go away for too long. If you’ve been around for awhile you know that we love visiting the National Parks. They make for a great long weekend trip, and once again, almost always include comfortable, casual outfits.
I am also still very much into the pop of color of a fun shoe. You all know my absolute obsession with Sambas/Sambaes and Gazelle sneakers. I never used to be a sneaker girl, but these shoes are a trend I fell into and have yet to leave behind. A good Chelsea boot is another great option in terms of a closet staple.
Maybe it’s the millennial in me, but I do love a classic pair of black leggings or joggers. It is wild to me that flare leggings (aka yoga pants) are making a comeback, but honestly I am here for it. Denim used to always be one of my fall closet staples. Currently for every day wear, I tend to gravitate more toward a pair of trousers or track pants.
