With Leo’s 5th birthday approaching, we decided to take a weekend getaway to visit a few more National Parks. You may remember that earlier this year we visited Joshua Tree and absolutely fell in love with it. This time, we chose to stay in New Mexico and explore all of the National Parks our state has to offer. Over the course of two days, we visited both White Sands National Park and Carlsbad Caverns.
Visiting New Mexico’s National Parks
When I was maybe around 9 or 10, I went with my family to visit New Mexico’s National Parks. It was so special to be able to invite my parents to go with us to celebrate Leo’s birthday. Seeing White Sands again was truly so magical. We were there about an hour before sunset, and the lighting made for some beautiful photos! If you have never been, and are in the area, I highly recommend checking it out.
The following day we drove to Carlsbad to visit Carlsbad Caverns. Another one of New Mexico’s National Parks that I visited as a kid and could not wait to see again. Walking through the caverns almost feels like you are on a movie set because it is hard to believe what you’re seeing is naturally occurring. In the evening, we went back to the park to see the bat flight program. This was by far my favorite part of the entire visit. No photography is allowed during the flight, so I can’t share any pictures, but trust me when I say it is a must see if you ever visit Carlsbad.
Let’s quickly chat what to wear. So far, on all of our National Park visits I have opted for a comfortable athleisure look. My floral embroidered sweatshirt is c/o adidas (green is no longer available, but lots of other options of women’s hoodies here). I also never travel without a good pair of women’s running shoes. I made sure to wear my favorite Ultraboost 1.0 shoes to hike the caverns. Throw on your favorite pair of leggings, and you will be set!
