May was such a crazy month for us, as it usually is. Between school coming to an end, Mother’s Day, and so many birthdays, we were ready for a break. To celebrate Harper’s birthday and the end of school, we decided on a weekend staycation in Taos, New Mexico. I have lived in New Mexico for the majority of my life, but had surprisingly never been to Taos!
Weekend Staycation in Taos: where to stay
As a long time follower of Hotel Luna Mystica on Instagram, I knew it would be the perfect place to stay. I wound up booking one of their largest airstreams to accommodate our family, the Soy Capitan. It included a queen sized bed and bunk beds, so it’s perfect for a family of four! There was also an option for a pull out couch, which could accommodate two additional people. Our airstream also had it’s own bathroom that included a shower. This was so nice to have, rather than using the community shower that is also available on the property. I believe they are also pet friendly, if you travel with your dog like we used to.
We really didn’t have any big plans for our staycation, which would up being perfect. Once we arrived to our airstream, the boys worked on making a fire for later in the evening. We took a quick drive to check out the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, which was incredible! It is one of the country’s highest bridges, and was so amazing to see while we were in Taos.
After we saw the bridge, we stopped at a local grocery store to pick up some things for dinner. It was so nice out that we spent the rest of the evening at the airstream property. We made a fire, and cooked up some dinner and s’mores. It was pretty cool in the evening and morning, so if you go I would highly recommend bringing your hoodies, even in the summer months.
Weekend Staycation in Taos: what to do
Thanks to the sun rising at 5:30am, we were up super early on Sunday. We made some coffee, and decided to go on a hike as a family. I had mentioned during my previous post about our trip to Colorado that I was hoping to grab a pair of hiking boots before our next adventure. When we had decided to spend a weekend in Taos, my husband and I both got a pair to take with us. I’m so glad we did!
The hike was beautiful, and the weather was perfect because we were finished before 10am. Thankfully our kids have gotten used to our attempts at incorporating a walk or hike on the trips that we take. I am also thankful to have a husband who can carry our son on his shoulders for at least a portion of said hike.We grabbed breakfast at Farmhouse Cafe & Bakery on our way back to the airstream. Everything there was farm fresh, organic, and locally grown. Breakfast was delicious, but the pastries that we grabbed to go for our drive home were even better. Our weekend staycation in Taos was so much fun, and we are already trying to plan our next trip!
