Today I am so extremely excited to be sharing an outfit that I had originally shared on Instagram yesterday for People.com and Old Navy’s 50 Styles, 50 States campaign. Being a native New Mexican and an avid Old Navy lover (exhibit A, B, and C), it took me no time to find the perfect outfit that I felt represented my home state. New Mexico is all about bright colors and bold statements. If you are from here or have ever visited, you know the hotter the chile, the better! You are bound to find something turquoise in every local shop, and we typically have more sunny days than cloudy days.

I was fortunate to live in California for a few years, but always knew I would wind up back in Albuquerque eventually. Albuquerque definitely promotes a laid back style. It is perfect for me because I am a total jeans and a tee type of girl. I have so many pairs of Rockstar jeans! They are by far the most comfortable and flattering fit on me, and are perfect to chase after Harper in. They are also super affordable, which you know I love! When I spotted this tassel front swing blouse in this vibrant orange shade I was immediately drawn to it. It had New Mexico written all over it, especially when paired with this turquoise necklace.

Navy Lace Dress

Last week I shared my shopping experience with the new David’s Bridal store that opened here in Albuquerque, and today I am so excited to share the beautiful navy lace dress that I found! After browsing through a lot of their special occasion styles, I found myself gravitating toward all of the navy dresses. The wedding I will be wearing this dress to is at the end of the month, so I felt like navy was the perfect color! I also love anything lace, especially in the fall and winter months.

Before heading to the store, I did a little online browsing and originally had my eye on this black lace two piece set. I found out once I arrived to the store that they did not carry the Cheers Cynthia Rowley collection, however they did seem to have a lot of similar options. When my stylist brought me this navy lace dress to try on, I immediately fell in love. I’m usually not one to wear a lot of short dresses, but I feel completely comfortable in this dress thanks to the flowy lace overlay that extends the hemline right above the knee. I can’t wait to dance the night away with my hubby and friends at the wedding soon!

8 Essentials Every Girl Needs For Fall

Can you guys believe that in exactly two weeks it will be September? This year seriously needs to slow down! The fact that I’ve been starting to prepare my fall wardrobe is crazy to me, but I can already tell that fall is just around the corner. The days have seemed shorter, and it’s been slightly chilly already in the mornings when I wake up. Today I wanted to share with you my top 8 essential items that I can’t live without for fall. These all help with the transition from summer to fall, especially my #1 piece…

8 Essentials Every Girl Needs For Fall

1. Utility jacket – An absolute closet staple of mine! I love that this one also comes in camo.

2. Saddle bag – This bag is a total wish list item of mine! I love the idea of a suede bag for fall, and you can never go wrong with a saddle bag.

3. Bell sleeve shift dress – This dress is under $50 and comes in a ton of prints/solid shades. It would be perfect to wear alone with a pair of ankle booties, or over a pair of leggings with some riding boots on a colder day.

4. Cutout booties – I am a sucker for a good pair of ankle boots, and I am loving the cutout details that I am seeing everywhere!

5. Oversized sunglasses – A new season is the perfect excuse to splurge on a new pair of sunglasses, and this tortoise and rose gold pair totally fit the bill for me.

6. Dark nail polish – The shade pictured is Essie’s ‘Smokin’ Hot’, which is a favorite of mine. I am already starting to itch for darker nails, and it’s not even September yet!

7. But First Coffee mug – Cooler temperatures = warmer drinks, amiright? I am usually an iced coffee girl, but as soon as there is a chill in the air, I’m all about a hot cup of coffee.

8. Suede trim wool floppy hat – The perfect accessory to complete any fall outfit.

Little Black (Maxi) Dress

TGIF! I have actually been looking forward to this Friday for awhile now because the day has finally come that Megan from the Fashionista Momma and I are launching our new monthly style link up. I have been a big fan of Megan and her blog since meeting her via one of my favorite Facebook groups – Fab Female Bloggers. This year I have really been working hard to grow my blog and Facebook groups have been a huge part of that. They have not only helped me grow as a blogger, but I have also developed some wonderful friendships with some amazing ladies (I’m also looking at you, Katie). Style Tips for Tall and Curvy Girls

I would definitely say my style has changed since having a baby. Certainly, I have a few more curves now than I did before! I have always considered myself to be curvy, long before I got pregnant and had a baby. My size in clothing has ranged from a 6 to a 12 for as long as I can remember. I definitely have never been a size 2, or anywhere close.

I’ve had my set of challenges throughout the years learning how to dress in a way that is flattering for my body type. Not only do I have to consider my large bust, but also wide hips and not-so-skinny legs. If you’re like me, you are also tall, which can bring about a whole new level of difficulty when getting dressed. I originally wrote this as a guest post in XO Kerry’s Stylish Mama series, but also wanted to publish here to share some style tips for tall and curvy girls that I’ve learned over the years on dressing your curves.

1. Midi dresses for the win – Midi dresses are pretty much perfect, no matter what height you are. Maxi dresses can be tricky if you’re on the shorter or taller end of the spectrum because you run the risk of them being the wrong length. Short dresses don’t always work well for us tall girls because they’re a little too short. Honestly, short dresses really do not work for me at all. I am clearly on the taller side (I’m about 5’10”), so midi dresses usually hit me right below the knee.

2. Try a wrap dress with a bold print – It’s no surprise that a wrap dress can be one of the most flattering cuts for any woman. No matter what size you are they look great. I love the idea of a wrap dress with a bold print. It creates a slimming effect and helps distribute the focus to the dress as a whole, rather than one specific body part or area. A wrap dress is perfect if you have a larger bust as well. They are also usually nursing friendly, which is a bonus for me!

3. Opt for long length denim – Old Navy and Gap are my absolute go-to brands when it comes to buying jeans. They are very reasonably priced and are usually on sale. I have found that their tall length is perfect for me! Also, I love that they also offer curvy styles. I find that a dark wash is typically the most flattering and makes my legs look a lot slimmer than when I wear a lighter wash.

4. Patterns are your new best friend – A lot of times when a woman has a large bust or is curvy, she tends to stray away from bold prints and patterns. I think the fear is that it will draw too much attention. I feel like a great pattern can help draw attention away from any one particular body part. It creates visual interest, and allows you to not have to worry about piling on the accessories!
