Velvet Cami & A Cozy Cardigan

It’s hard to believe this is my first post of 2018 guys! Where in the hell did 2017 go? I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and are feeling good going into the new year. You may have seen on my Insta-stories that my husband and I are giving a juice cleanse a try. After doing some really serious research aka browsing Pinterest, I found a great DIY. I even took a poll yesterday and many of you said you wanted to see a post about it, so stay tuned. I definitely did not create the recipes, but I am excited to share my experience with it.

Anyway, onto what today’s post is all about – this beautiful velvet cami! I’ve been loving the velvet trend, but haven’t truly found a piece yet that suits my style. I tried on a pair of velvet pants, which were not cute at all on me. I am still on the hunt for a great affordable velvet blazer, but have yet to find it. While shopping at Old Navy (surprised?) I came across this navy blue velvet cami. For under $10, I knew it was the perfect piece to add a little velvet to my wardrobe. As with most pieces at Old Navy, this one is almost always on sale, so be sure to snag it before it’s gone. My love for cozy cardigans runs deep, and I thought pairing my velvet cami with this one made a great team.

Celebrating the Holidays in Albuquerque

The holidays in Albuquerque are always a magical time. The winters here often feel drab since it is so dry, but when Christmas time rolls around it’s anything but. There are quite a few fun activities and sights to see during this time of year in Albuquerque. Today I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites with you.

Holidays in Albuquerque // Things to Do:

Take a walk around Old Town: All of the photos I am sharing today were from a recent trip to Old Town Albuquerque. It’s always one of my favorite places to go to during the holiday season! I love all of the beautiful decorations that can be found down every walkway. They have an annual Holiday Stroll and tree lighting in the beginning of December that is beautiful.
Check out the River of Lights: Located at the Albuquerque BioPark, the River of Lights is a magical Christmas light display. It is the perfect activity to bring your family to. The River of Lights runs throughout the month of December.
Drive around to look at Christmas lights and luminarias: One thing that is truly unique and special to New Mexico during the holidays are luminarias. When I was younger, I used to help my dad put them out every Christmas Eve. Thanks to Lexus, looking at lights was even more fun than usual because we were able to drive around in a 2017 Lexus NX 300H for a week. We had so much fun bundling up and driving around the city in this gorgeous SUV!
Enjoy the local cuisine: For the few years I lived away from New Mexico, one of the things I missed the most was the chile. There are a lot of local foods that are incorporated into holidays meals, such as tamales and posole. Don’t forget to top them with your favorite red or green chile (or a mix of both, which is often called ‘Christmas’ – how fitting!)
Decorate with a ristra or two: You will notice in some of today’s photos that there are ristras hanging all around during the holidays. Ristras are the strung pods of dried red chiles that are perfect for Christmas time! They serve as a welcome sign and are said to bring health and good luck.

Shopping Small Business for the Holidays

The Perfect Holiday Tunic & Affordable OTK Boots

All of the sudden it started to get really cold here in Albuquerque, and I’m not sure that I like it. The sad thing about our winters here is even though it’s absolutely freezing outside, we rarely get snow. Not saying I want a ton of snow or anything, but if it’s going to be cold it might as well snow! Anyway, when the temperatures drop, it’s the perfect excuse to break out my favorite pair of over the knee boots. I have shared these affordable boots before, and it definitely won’t be the last time you see them around here.

When it comes to the holidays, sometimes I love getting a little fancy, but generally I tend to stick to casual and comfortable. I recently received the perfect holiday tunic from one of my favorite shops, Evy’s Tree, and fell in love! It is a great piece for the holidays that can be styled and layered in so many different ways. Sticking with the comfortable theme, I paired it with my all time favorite high waisted leggings and OTK boots. If you are on the shorter side, this tunic would even make for a really cute dress minus the leggings!

Holiday Gift Guide for Toddlers

Toddler gift guides are naturally my favorite to make since I have a 2.5 year old myself. If you have a child similar in age, you know that the last thing you want to get your toddler (or someone with a toddler) is a bunch of toys with a million pieces. I feel like I’m constantly telling family members and friends to stay away from buying more toys since it already feels like Harper has way too many. When I am buying gifts for the toddlers in my life, I try to stick to that same rule.

If your toddler is anything like mine, they love anything created by Melissa and Doug! My daughter goes nuts for all of the pretend food sets, and I thought this pizza set was way too cute!
