The Weekly Style Edit Link Up: Striped Sweater

Happy Tuesday everyone! I’ve officially jumped on the blogger band wagon with this striped sweater, but I just couldn’t resist! I don’t shop at H&M too often, but happened to be there a few weekends ago. When I spotted this striped sweater in person after seeing it on every blogger, I just had to have it. Although pink isn’t usually my color, I couldn’t resist these stripes. This sweater is surprisingly lightweight and so soft! Paired with my favorite Old Navy Rockstar jeans, it makes the ideal winter to spring transitional outfit.

Date Night Style // High-Waisted Jeans

I thought it would be fun to style these jeans for a low key date night look. Now I’ll be honest, this outfit hasn’t actually made it on a date yet. I am, however, already planning to wear it in a few weeks. My husband and I have tickets to see one of our favorite bands, The Avett Brothers. My hubby laughed at me while taking these pictures when I told him that I already had my outfit planned for our date night. Date nights around here are a lot less frequent than they were before Harper was born, so we always try to make the best of them!

Maybe it’s because I’m in my 30’s and am a mom, but when I think of date night style, I always lean toward a more casual look. That’s clearly my style to begin with, but I truly believe to enjoy a date night, one must be comfortable. You have to wear what makes you feel confident and at your best! Whether that’s a dress and a sky-high pair of heels, or a pair of jeans and flats, you have to do what works for you! Not to sound old fashioned, but it’s also nice to consider what your partner likes seeing you in. Mine has always been a fan of a good pair of jeans and flat shoes, so I usually meet him somewhere in the middle. After all, relationships are all about compromise, right?

Currently Craving for Spring: Pieces Under $100

Like every other blogger on the planet, I am counting down the days until it is officially spring. We had a little glimpse of warm weather here a few weeks ago, but that was short lived. It’s been pretty cold here the last few days. We even had some random snow over the weekend! Despite the snow, I am still dreaming about spring. I’ve slowly started adding a few new pieces to my wardrobe, including the cutest black overalls and a pair of neutral loafers. You know I’m all about finding pieces that are budget friendly, so I kept that in mind when putting together today’s post.

There is clearly a theme going on with denim today. We all know by now that I could live in denim. I love the idea of wearing more distressed pieces as the temperatures rise, and you can’t beat a great pair of distressed jeans. Last summer I shared two ways to style distressed jeans, and still stand by that pair! I also own two pairs of the lace up gladiator sandals that I included in my round up, last seen here. They are so affordable (under $20) and really comfortable. I definitely plan to grab a few more colors this year, and am so happy Old Navy brought them back!

Affordable DIY Shelves for Under $75

I am so excited to finally be sharing our affordable DIY shelves with you today! Believe it or not, a few months ago the wall that the shelves are now on was painted with a large chevron print. I’m only mildly embarrassed to admit that. This year we finally decided it was time to say goodbye and make our front room a lot more modern. We have added a new couch, a bunch of plants, and moved the majority of Harper’s toys into her room. Once we did that, we knew we wanted to put something up where the chevron wall once was. So here we are, DIY shelves to the rescue!

I love that my husband is a DIY kind of guy. If he doesn’t know how to do or make something, he enjoys taking the time to learn, which is so cool to me. He is definitely the patient one, so let’s just say I was more of a consultant for this job than then actual DIY’er. He gets all of the credit for these shelves. All we needed were 3 pine boards, wall brackets, some wood stain and finish, and viola! We managed to buy all of the materials we needed for under $75, and I’ve listed them all below for you.

We opted for 6′ long shelves, based on the size of the room we put them in. My husband cut and sanded each board down to the correct size. He stained each piece of wood and topped it off with a poly satin wood finish. We measured and marked where each bracket would go, and once the shelves were dry, he attached three brackets to each shelf. Once the shelves were hung, the decorating began, which of course was my favorite part. We didn’t want the shelves to be too cluttered or busy, so we just added a few personal touches. I’m so happy with how they turned out!Material Details (all purchased at Lowe’s):

Getting Ready for Spring with Evy’s Tree

Happy Valentine’s Day! I actually planned to post this outfit last week, but that didn’t happen. It’s probably a good thing I waited because I think this outfit is perfect for Valentine’s Day! You may have seen a little sneak peek of it yesterday on Instagram. Let’s just say I’m totally getting ready for spring, although I’m trying to remind myself we still have a few months to go before it actually feels like spring.

You guys know that my love for Evy’s Tree runs deep. I pretty much wear their pieces non-stop, and for good reason. I actually own this same cardigan in yellow, and can’t decide if I love the yellow or red more! I paired it with their new Amy gingham shirt that is just perfect for spring. Typically I stray away from button down shirts because #curvygirlproblems, but was pleasantly surprised with this one. I went up a size, and am so glad that I did. I often have problems with button down shirts not actually staying buttoned, but that is not something I have to worry about with this top!

4 Outfits to Wear for Valentine’s Day

The countdown is on until Valentine’s Day! It falls on a weekday, which sometimes makes it tricky to make plans with your Valentine. Thankfully my husband and I have adopted the tradition over the years to stay in on Valentine’s Day and make a special dinner at home. Even though we celebrate at home, I try to wear something festive for the day. Today I am sharing 4 easy outfits to wear for Valentines Day that are super simple to put together.

Outfits to Wear for Valentine’s Day:

Lace top with classic black pants

There’s something about lace that always feel so chic and perfect for any holiday. Throwing on a lace cami or tank with your favorite pair of black jeans or pants is such an effortless combination. Add a blazer or cardigan on top if it’s chilly where you live, and you’re set!

Add a pop of red in a casual outfit

When I think of Valentine’s Day, red is my go-to color. I’ve never been a big fan of pink, so I love to incorporate pops of red into my outfit. Last year I bought a pair of red Pixie pants from Old Navy that I have a feeling I’ll be wearing again this year. I went a little obvious with this outfit, but couldn’t resist pairing the pants with a graphic sweatshirt.

A classic LBD

A little black dress is a closet staple for a reason. It can be styled in a million different ways! Personally, I love keeping my LBD outfits simple and monochromatic. If it’s freezing where you are, throw on a pair of tights, leggings, or over the knee boots. I’m also a fan of adding a few gold accessories and a classic handbag to keep the look understated, yet chic.

Break out the faux leather leggings

Clearly you can sense a theme by now. I am obviously all about lace, leopard, and black when it comes to special occasion style. If something works, why change it? I love wearing my faux leather leggings for a date night (out or in). They add great visual interest to an outfit, and definitely increase the hotness factor! I mean, it is Valentine’s Day after all!
