Lace Kimono: The Weekly Style Edit

Want to add a little visual interest to an outfit? Throw on a lace kimono! This one has actually been hanging in my closet for a few months. I’m not quite sure why I don’t wear it more often. I’m definitely on the basic side when it comes to my every day outfits, so sometimes it’s fun to liven things up a bit. Kimonos have been a long time favorite of mine to wear in the summer when it’s too hot to wear a jacket or cardigan. They are typically super lightweight and easy to throw on over almost any outfit. They’re especially great if you’re pregnant or nursing!

I’m also excited to let you know that I realized while putting this post together that my one and only pair of white jeans are still available! I actually purchased them last year and honestly don’t think I’ll ever need another pair. I legit spilled foundation on them (that was quite the saga last summer), and somehow managed to get it out. So thankful I was because they are PERFECT! I’ve linked them at the bottom of the post for you, and highly recommend you check them out if you’re looking for a great pair of white denim.

Finding the Perfect Pair of Jeans with Maurices

If you have been a reader of Middle of Somewhere for any length of time, you know I am denim obsessed. I basically live in jeans, and probably wear them 6 out of 7 days of the week. Being tall and curvy, finding the perfect pair has never been easy. For me, jeans are usually either too short, too tight in the legs, or not available in the length/size combination that I need. At this point, I have tried so many different brands and styles. One brand that I had never tried until now was Maurices. I have shopped at Maurices for other clothing items, but never for denim. Let me just say, I have been missing out!

When looking for the perfect pair, I have a few basic requirements that I always look for. The first being that the jeans are long enough. Since I am tall, it has always been a pet peeve of mine when jeans are too short. Secondly, I need my jeans to be comfortable enough to wear all day long. I pretty much wear jeans daily, and they need to be comfortable enough for me to move around in throughout the day. Finally, I need to make sure my jeans keep their shape. There’s nothing worse than a pair of jeans that fit perfectly in the morning, and stretch out or become baggy by the end of the day.

During my quest for the perfect jeans, I gave three different pairs a try. The styles include a high rise jegging, a dark wash skinny jean, and a mid-rise destructed hem jegging. Come join me on my journey to find the perfect pair of jeans from Maurices!

DenimFlex Dark Wash High Rise Jegging:

The first pair that I tried on was the high rise jeggings in dark wash. I am wearing a size medium tall in this pair. At first I was worried that this pair might be too tight in the legs since they are a jegging, however that was not the case. These jeggings are super stretchy, and fit just like a pair of skinny jeans. Skinny jeans are typically my preference, so I was pleasantly surprised with this pair. There is light distressing, which gives the jeans some character without being over the top. I paired them with this pretty ruffle lace top and a cute pair of neutral heels to make the perfect date night look!

Everflex High Rise Dark Wash Stretch Skinny Jean:

I’m going to let you in on a little secret… I immediately fell in love with this pair. I’m not sure I own any other pair of jeans that are as soft as these are. Just like the pair before, I am wearing these in a medium tall. When finding jeans, you can never go wrong with a basic pair of dark wash skinnies. I love the wash, but better yet is the rise! This pair hits me right below my belly button, which is the ideal rise for me. Since becoming a mom, my appreciation for high waisted jeans has grown exponentially! I think it’s safe to say that I will be living in this pair of skinny jeans. This outfit would be a typical work day outfit for me, but could easily be dressed down with a flat pair of sandals or booties for fall.

DenimFlex Medium Wash Destructed Hem Jegging:

The third and final pair that I tried are these destructed hem jeggings. Of the three pairs, this pair seemed to not quite fit me just right. They are a little tighter than I prefer, and may size up in these if you’re unsure of fit. These jeggings are a size medium regular length. I think if they came in a long length, I would love them just as much as the others. As I mentioned with the previous pair, I typically prefer a darker wash when wearing skinny jeans, but I do love the wash and hem of these. My ankles are an area that I prefer to cover up, and this pair hit me right above the ankle. This was easily remedied by pairing these jeggings with this cute pair of gladiator sandals. I am also loving this off the shoulder top, and would totally wear this outfit out on the weekend!Which pair of jeans is your favorite? Circle Rattan Statement Bag: The Weekly Style Edit

I might be really weird, but I usually try to stay away from trendy accessories. This is especially the case when I see the same piece over and over on bloggers. Not trying to be a hater, but when I see a bag or pair of shoes styled a million different ways it can feel a little redundant. The circle rattan statement bag trend was one I just couldn’t stay away from. I just love the look of these cute little bags, and had to get my hands on one. I have seen very similar bags with a way higher price tag, but the one I purchased was actually from Amazon and under $40 (praise hands!)

Not only did I get suckered into picking up one of these bags, I also couldn’t resist the latest Madewell sale. I was able to get this top and these jeans for under $100 total, and couldn’t say no. I’m slowly but surely becoming Madewell denim obsessed, and I’m not even mad about it. Although my wallet probably doesn’t share the same sentiment. I have a feeling this might be my travel outfit on my way to Atlanta in two weeks for #TBScon!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Top 10 Picks & What I Purchased

As you probably already know by now, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has been in full swing since last week. I mentioned on my Instagram stories (@lindsayrutland) that I was little underwhelmed by the sale, and only had purchased a few items. The first of my orders actually came in Thursday evening, which included the BLANKNYC moto jacket. The quality of this jacket is so amazing for the price (under $65!). I can see myself wearing it all fall/winter long! I am anxiously awaiting the rest of my order, and will definitely show you everything on my IG stories once it’s in. On a side note, the home section of the sale is actually really good this year. Zella Live In High Waist Leggings – Would I even be a blogger if I didn’t get a pair of these? I bought my first pair last year during the sale, and couldn’t resist the navy pair this year!

BLANKNYC Moto Jacket – I thought long and hard about this one, but knew I had to have it (and that it would sell out fast!) I purchased the black, and would say it runs a bit small.

BP. Stitch Curve Hem Cardigan – You know I had to throw at least one cardigan in there. I basically live in cardigans

Red Statement Earrings: The Weekly Style Edit

Happy Thursday friends! This week has felt like it’s flown by, and I can’t believe it’s already Thursday. Exactly three weeks from today I will be on my way to Atlanta for the very first time and I can’t wait! The best part is I’ll be reunited with some of my blogging besties, including Megan from The Fashionista Momma! We have only met in person once last year, and I am looking forward to hanging out more. I’m also really looking forward to attending my first ever blog conference, so get ready for tons of conference spam #sorrynotsorry!

Onto today’s outfit. You guys know I am a sucker for a jumpsuit! I’m not even embarrassed to admit that this is the 3rd black jumpsuit that I own. Each one has it’s own unique accents, like the gorgeous embroidered top on this one that I recently picked up thanks to Macy’s. When wearing a solid jumpsuit, I like to jazz it up a bit with some fun jewelry. Honestly, you can never go wrong with a pair of red statement earrings! I always love a good pair of Sugarfix by Baublebar earrings, and couldn’t resist this red pair. I clearly have a thing for red lately!

Shorts for Tall Girls: The Weekly Style Edit

Oh shorts… one of my least favorite pieces of clothing ever. This is only the second time I have ever shared myself in a pair of shorts on Middle of Somewhere. Why do I dislike shorts so much you may be wondering (0r not). As a tall girl with thicker legs, finding shorts can be nearly impossible. They’re always way too short for me and tend to hug my thighs in all of the most unflattering ways. If you’ve been a reader for awhile, you also know that my legs are probably my least favorite body part. I’m not trying to sound negative, but rather be honest because hey, we all have body parts we would rather conceal!

When summer began, I decided it was time to find a pair of shorts that I actually felt good in. This was no easy feat! It is just way too hot here some days that hiding behind my jeans is not an option. I spent so much time Googling variations of the “best shorts for tall girls” without much luck. Then I decided to stick with what I know and I searched around online at Gap. I love Gap for so many reasons, especially because they offer tall lengths in most of their jeans/shorts/pants. The shorts I’m wearing today have 5.5″ inseam (an extra 0.5″ because I ordered them in tall). I also went up one size to make sure they were a little looser on my legs, which is way to go if you have thicker thighs!
