Best of 2018: The Weekly Style Edit

Here we are, two weeks into 2019 and it’s already flying! 2018 wound up being a really amazing year for me for so many different reasons. It was probably the biggest blog year I have had so far, which makes me all the more excited to see what the new year has in store. Today for The Weekly Style Edit, Megan and I thought it would be fun to share a round up of our best posts from last year to kick off the link up for 2019!

Most Popular Posts of 2018:

Hunter Boots for The Weekly Style Edit: Hunter boots remain one of my favorite pairs of shoes to wear year-round. I had some fun with this outfit and paired them with some overalls.

Easy & Healthy DIY Valentines: I had a lot of fun working on this post with Cuties, and had some help from a cute little assistant!

Natural Makeup from Whole Foods: Whole Foods was another exciting partnership I had in 2018. Through it, I found a lot of my current favorite clean beauty brands!

The Perfect Lace Cami for The Weekly Style Edit: Probably one of my favorite outfits of the year as well! Not just on the blog, but in every life also. The sweater blazer I featured in this post was definitely in my top 5 purchases of the year.

Harper’s Mermaid Birthday Party: Harper’s 2nd birthday party remains my most popular post of all time, but her mermaid party comes in a close second. She picked the theme, and we wound up having a lot of fun putting it all together.

My Favorite Posts of 2018:

Gray Ankle Boots for The Weekly Style Edit: One of my favorite outfits from the fall! The weather was just perfect the day we took the photos for this post. You can’t beat that #basic fall foliage.

Finding the Perfect Jeans with Maurices: I had so much fun working on this post, including sharing a try-on on my IG stories. You guys know that I’m all about denim, and I really had fun styling each pair.

Monthly Beauty Hits and Misses: This series began in 2018, and I am so glad I finally gave it a go. It’s a series I have been thinking about for awhile, and now I look forward to it every month. If you aren’t familiar with it, each month I share a few beauty products I’ve tried that are either a hit or a miss for me. I shared my final one of 2018 earlier this week!

Black Distressed Overalls: I actually wore these overalls a few times throughout 2018 (most recently here). They are surprisingly versatile, and can definitely be worn no matter what season it is.

Best of 2018 – A Few More Highlights:

Olay! You guys, I can’t even. I know I have talked about this before on IG, but being able to work with Olay again in 2018-2019 is a dream. A few of my favorite posts/products I’ve shared are: their clay stick masks for easy self-care and the Whip SPF to help minimize your beauty bag for travel.

Speaking of travel, I had the amazing opportunity to partner with the Mexico Tourism board for my first ever press trip to Guadalajara. I honestly was super hesitant to go at first, but thanks to some convincing from my husband I went. It was a super short trip, and probably one of the coolest experiences ever!

December Beauty Hits and Misses

Well hello there friends! It’s been awhile… about 3 weeks to be exact! I kind of randomly decided to take a little bit of a break from the blog over the holidays, and I have to say it was pretty nice. It was more needed than I thought it would be, but I’m excited to be back! What better way than to kick off the year with my December beauty hits and misses. I’m so glad I started this monthly series in 2018, and can’t wait to share last month’s picks with you!

December Beauty Hits:

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: I have been using the drying cream for a few years, but recently started disliking how much quickly it dries out in the container. I have seen some of my favorite beauty bloggers share the drying lotion, so I decided to give it a shot. While the application is a little weird (you stick a Q-tip into the bottle and take it out without shaking anything off to apply), it really helps. My skin has always been acne prone, and while I wish I wasn’t a 34 year old with acne, such is life. This stuff really helps clear up any breakouts in a day or two.

Dryland Wilds Beauty Oil: You guys know I’m obsessed with all things Dryland Wilds, and this beauty oil is no exception. I have been using it every other night now for about a month and am in love. I typically put 2-3 drops on and then use my jade roller (grab one on Amazon here for $13!). The oil dries quickly, and makes my skin feel so soft! I have been using the Rosehip + Thistle oil, and have my eye on the Evening Primrose for the next time. The smell of every Dryland Wilds product is just incredible, especially if you’re a NM local like I am and love our desert smells.

December Beauty Misses:

Pixi Lash Primer: I generally love everything that I try from Pixi. Sadly, this primer was a big miss for me. It is basically just a mascara rather than a primer, and not a great one at that. I didn’t like how it layered with my regular mascara, and it didn’t do my lashes any favors. Definitely a big miss.

RoC Retinol Daily Hydration Creme: A product that I truly wanted to love! And let me just say that I don’t totally dislike it, I just don’t notice any difference in my skin after using it. I like the texture of the cream, although it feels a little greasy at first. No noticeable improvement in the texture of my skin/wrinkles as the packaging suggested, so I’m going to go ahead and call this one a miss for me.

Free People Dress for the Holidays: The Weekly Style Edit

The last Thursday before Christmas! Are you guys ready? I finally finished all of my wrapping yesterday, so I am officially ready to celebrate! Christmas has always been my favorite holiday and I’m excited to see what next week has in store. I have all of my holiday outfits planned out for the next few days, and you know this dress made the cut.

I am loving this Free People dress for the holidays! It actually comes in red as well, which is also gorgeous, but there is something about a classic black and white print that I love. I actually feel like this dress could be worn all year long! It can be dressed up or down, and is also really easy to layer with. In case you were wondering I totally froze while taking this photos, but had to share the pretty details of the dress. The open back is such an unexpected surprise, and there are buttons along each side.

Gift Guide for Grandparents

Thanks to everyone who responded to some of my recent Instastory polls, today I am excited to share my gift guide for grandparents. Whether you’re specifically shopping for Christmas, or maybe even a birthday, I have found my top 10 gift picks. My parents are always fans of personalized gifts, so I of course had to include a few of those in the list. Others are a bit more generic, but are great especially if they grandparents in your life are retired and spend more time at home. So without further ado, here we go! P.S. Gift Guide for Grandparents

Letters to my Grandchild: I had to include this first because I think it would be so fun for grandparents to write letters to your children. It would be such a cool thing for kids to look back on as they get older!

Grandmother’s Journal: I almost didn’t include this one because my mom reads my blog and pretty sure she will tell me she wants this haha! Such a sweet gift idea! You may be getting it for Mother’s Day Mom 🙂

Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System: Who doesn’t love a new coffee maker? We own a similar version of this Ninja and are obsessed! It’s time for grandma and grandpa to upgrade their old drip coffee pot.

Best Grandparents Mugs: A great Amazon Prime find! Would make the perfect add-on to the Ninja coffee maker too.

Crosley Deluxe Turntable: Did your parents have a record player when you were younger that they got rid of? Or maybe their old record player just needs an update. A turntable is great for any household, and makes listening to music feel a little more nostalgic.

How to Babysit a Grandma and Grandpa Book Set: My parents actually bought Harper both of these books and we really enjoy them. I love the idea of getting the box set to leave at grandma and grandpa’s house as well.

Best Recipe Tile: If the grandparents in your life enjoy cooking, especially family recipes, this is the perfect gift. You can include a recipe that has been in the family for easy reference, and it doubles as cute countertop decor.

Fleece Photo Blanket: I’ve actually been wanting to get my parents a photo blanket with Harper’s photos on it for awhile. My in-laws have one and I just think they make the perfect gift!

Google Home: One of the best things to have ever entered my home! I actually gave my parents the mini version, and they love it too. Perfect to listen to music, get weather updates, ask questions, etc.

Nordstrom at Home Plush Throw: I already own two of these, and am so impressed. They are super soft, and hold up after multiple washes. Great addition to any home! They’re also under $30 right now.

Leopard Ankle Boots: The Weekly Style Edit

I have a confession to make… I can’t stop wearing these leopard ankle boots. A few weeks ago I took a poll on my Instastories on whether or not I should get this pair. Most people said to go for it and I’m so glad I did! My husband told me that I look like I’m a member of an 80’s rock band with these boots aka he’s not a big fan. I am a big fan though and that’s really all that matters right?

Other than the leopard boots, I also ordered this sequin top on Black Friday. I thought it would be perfect for the holidays! I wound up ordering a size up, which honestly was not the best idea. For whatever reason, I am so lazy when it comes to returning things. I usually wind up just keeping something even if it’s a little big rather than exchanging it. Long story short, I would recommend getting your usual size in this top. Even though it’s a little cropped, it’s definitely boxy and roomy.

November Beauty Hits and Misses

Happy Monday friends! As always I am excited to bring you my beauty hits and misses from November. I actually tried quite a few new products last month, but didn’t want to overwhelm today’s post so I picked a top 5. I will definitely share the rest in December’s hits and misses blog post, so stay tuned! November Beauty Hits

Purlisse Blue Lotus Mud Mask + Exfoliant: I’ve actually been a fan of this product since I received it a few months ago, but it’s back on my radar! Who doesn’t love a product that serves multiple purposes? They’re definitely a favorite for me. This mask feels so nice and cooling when it’s on, and after about 10 minutes when it’s time to wash off something amazing happens. With a little bit of water, it turns into an exfoliator! Dyland Wilds Desert Deodorant: Ok guys, I think it’s safe to say I have found the best natural deodorant. I, of course, love it even more because it’s made locally. But seriously, I’ve been using this product for a few weeks now and it has been the easiest transition. I haven’t experienced any rashes or irritation, like I did previously when I tried other natural deodorants. They make one with and one without baking soda, so I opted for the one without. If you’re looking to make the switch, I highly recommend this one from Dryland Wilds! It Cosmetics Matte CC+ Cream:I have been a long time lover of the original It Cosmetics CC cream. Over the summer I started using a matte Covergirl foundation, and wound up really loving the matte formula. When I saw It Cosmetics came out with a matte version, I was so excited to try it. So glad that I did! I actually love this formula more than the original, and still use the same shade (I wear ‘light’).

REN Skincare Perfect Canvas: Finally, a clean beauty makeup primer! Although I’m a bit of a hater when it comes to primers (I’m not entirely sure they’re necessary/make a big difference), I love the feel of this one. It applies like a serum, and feels a bit tacky at first. It quickly dries into the skin, and does make foundation application a lot smoother.

November Beauty Misses

Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Facial Oil: I’ll be honest, I’m still on the fence about this. I have heard a few other bloggers rave about it, so I finally decided to give it a shot. I bought the smaller bottle to test it out, and I’m glad I did. For the price of this product, I think I may have expected a bit more. Granted, I don’t use this every night, which might be the problem? Either way, I don’t have very dry skin on my face, so I’m wondering if this product just isn’t for me.
